The secret of breathing and sleeping:
How to unite the 3rd and 4th Chakra – the lower and middle Dan Tian
A famous Wuji Master from China once taught the secrets to unite the Heart Chakra also known as the 4th Chakra – as “breathing and sleeping.”
What does this mean?
Introduction
The abstract energy in the body has been divided in many ways in many cultures / religions / styles over our history:
- Buddhism talks of the 7 Chakras, 8 parts of consciousness
- Daosim talks of the 3 Tians, 3 energy centres, the Micro-Cosmic Orbit and the Meridian Lines
- Sanskrit talks of the Nadis
These can all be connected together as a training system. For example, energy in 7 chakras can be divided into the 3 Tians:

- Lower Dan Tian – Dan Tian – 1,2,3 Chakras
- Middle Dan Tian – Tian Zhong – 4th Chakra
- Upper Dan Tian – Shen – 5,6,7th Chakras
These can be overlaid on one another and the centre of all of them is the 4th Chakra, the Heart Chakra, known as the middle-Dan Tian or Tan Zhong.
Tan Zhong means a special place for a ceremony to open up your spirits. And herein lies the secret!
The 3 energy centres from Daoism talk about turning Jing (original human essence) into Qi, refined wise action to charge the body to prepare the body for meditation. And then train Qi into into Shen – God-like energy. But regular physical training including foundational level of Taiji can only reach the 3rd Chakra well.
What Sifu discovered is that the 4th Chakra’s energy is much more open and powerful because instead of the squeezing and charging style associated with physical force, it expands letting the energy run faster. This lightness allows you to move much faster and more sensitive to improve your martial arts.
So how to develop it?
Summary
Physical training can charge 1,2,3 Chakras but needs a higher training, a lighter training to reach number 4.
To open the Heart chakra, the fastest way is through Buddhism philosophy, appreciation of Dharma, life is perfect, open heart.
Sifu’s reason to train this is to go higher level to control energy into joy.
Training Technique
Lie down with gentle music
Step One: Release tension
- Massage, acupuncture, hot shower / bath, stretch,
- Reduce tension in your physical, mental and psychology.
Step Two: Lower Dantian
- Goal is to use physical-control awareness to develop correct procedure to ‘breathe’ from your spring point (air in lungs and also your body’s energy moving through your body like air)
- Lift toes
- Squeeze bum tight
- Squeeze first chakra muscle gently concentrate energy into a laser line shoot up
- Try to breathe in and paint brush motion with both arms
- Light whole body breathing my spring point
- Physical procedure
- Psychology becomes light
Step Three: Ocean wave
- Use whole body breathing to open joints make energy pass through, water style, abstract no tension flowing
- Aware toes to fingers, jellyfish-like motion
- Personal-I will reduce and time slows down
Step Four: Forget all about it for a moment
- Put on a Buddhism mantra, spiritual music on, relax, rest and breathe.
- Whole body become lighter
- Use memory, imagination to create the feeling of a lotus blooming in the body, inside the joints, a joyful light feeling . Feel open up the body light flower petals, very sensitive and light.

- Ah, Dharma Joy is the quickest way to open your 4th chakra.
- That is why it is called Middle Dantian, Tian Zhong – the place to open spirits, Dharma Joy is opening your spirits. Our essence is Dharma Joy.
- Middle like a centre, so as you develop, Dharma Joy is your centre. Another way to see life is perfect.
- It is not the kind of centre so powerful, more like a centre that melts everything, a centre of lightness.
- Because it is lighter, my nerves become more sensitive.
- I use that to create motion and joy appears right away.
Step Five: Controlling Dantian without physical power anymore
- Lightness from 4th Chakra starts to influence your 3rd Chakra / Dantian. The spring point laser line is softer without breaking.
- More sensitive and delicate make you feel like you are doing art.
- Now the direction is towards art, so I disappear, you are moving meditation, a living art motion.
- To do well in art, you should prepare your psychology, you want to be delicate, you want to be fine, you want to have that beautiful feeling
- Ah it is all a feeling.
- What started as an idea, a theory finally became a feeling, I can’t do it through thinking. We cannot think of Dharma Joy only, it is a feeling, a memory.
- So our Dharma Joy are proof of our Eternal Wisdom ability, because we can connect back to them eternally, if we have discipline!
Step Six: Into Dharma Part 1 – Wu-Wei empty cloud feeling
- We learn two kinds: Wu-Wei and Universal kindness open heart to help every life
- Wu-Wei: take out personal I
- Look at the clouds, flying in the mountains, move timeless, no tension, no0I
- So I to feel no-i, no tension to move, ahh, empty
- Cloud is one kind of no-I emotion. A pure feeling, a joyful feeling. You can reach quite light already this way.
- But cloud feelings are not the same kind of Buddhism, open heart, universal kind emotion – heart feeling.
Step seven: Into Dharma: Part 2 – Kindness towards everyone
- Add in kind feeling, joy want to open heart help every life
- Memories of wah life is incredible through observing eternal philosophy, realise Dharma is perfect kind of joy, see spiritual lights, Bodhisattvas, lotus, spiritual signs, Pure Land, aware human limitation is like a little bubble of how amazing life can be
- Then energy become another level. The feeling before of empty and pure and joy.
- Now the feeling of energy is even lighter but stronger you become more sensitive and with more freedom to create.
Closing remarks
So to create the number four chakra opening you still have to follow the procedure. Make all joints light and open and free to move. Get rid of all your I and feel power from your foot, laser line. Then you start adding two more art philosophies.
Take out I by becoming nature
- Nature never has I. Water flow, ah relaxed feeling. Not relaxed means you have I.
- Every second create relaxed, ah, relax, drop, free from I feeling
- That is already Daoism, Wu-Wei, natural being to do Taiji
Then put in joyful astonished art feeling
- Lotus blooming with lights, Pure Land space, Life is Perfect feeling, open heart kindness to help everyone feeling, unlimited universe of galaxies, power is riding and joy is rising incredibly.
